Disappointing Experience with Dextrip Safaris – Would Not Recommend
2/5

Our recent family safari to Maasai Mara had its memorable moments, especially thanks to our ranger, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and clearly committed to making the most out of our time in the park. He went out of his way to accommodate our needs, and we truly appreciated his efforts.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Dextrip Safaris, the company that managed our trip. Despite having a confirmed written agreement for game drives on all three days of our safari, the third day was abruptly cancelled by the company, with the justification being the increase in park ticket prices. This change was not communicated in a transparent or timely manner, and we were left feeling disappointed and misled.

On the second day, our itinerary stated a full-day game drive, yet we were taken out of the park by 3 PM to visit a Maasai village—an activity we had not requested and were not interested in. This caused us to miss the late afternoon hours (4–6 PM), a peak time for wildlife activity in the reserve.

Additionally, the vehicle had flat tires three times in just two days. While we were patient and understanding about these delays, expecting such things can happen in remote areas, it made the lack of honesty and flexibility from the company even more frustrating.

What troubled us the most was the lack of responsibility and push for silence. We received several calls and WhatsApp messages from Dextrip Safaris urging us not to leave a negative review. But we feel it's important to be honest so that other travelers can make informed decisions.

In summary, while the Maasai Mara is breathtaking and our ranger was fantastic, our overall experience with Dextrip Safaris was far from smooth. We felt scammed, unheard, and disrespected. Sadly, I do not recommend this company and would advise others to book through a more reliable operator.

Hello Paula, we fully understand your concerns. Please know that we did our utmost to arrange a Maasai village visit and included additional activities as a gesture of goodwill, which you accepted before the trip began. We are also sorry for the punctures; this do happen because of the rough terrain deep in the forests of the Maasai Mara. That's why our vehicles are fitted with two spare wheels to ensure that the safari continues. Kindly not that game drives have expiry time set by the government and we are bound by this directive, any additional game drive require additional payment to the park directly. This could have been an overlook on your side, but we are sorry for that. We strive to meet our clients' standards and remain honest. Thanks for your feedback

Great price & guide, but itinerary changes und poor jeep had were not good.
3/5

We booked this safari mainly because of the attractive price in the advertisement – and in that regard, it did deliver. Our tour guide, Dida, was excellent: knowledgeable, friendly, and very committed to giving us the best possible experience during the game drives. Thanks to him, we saw a wide variety of animals and learned a lot about the local wildlife and culture.

However, there were several issues that negatively impacted the overall experience. First, the itinerary changed multiple times – both before the trip and even during the safari. This made it hard to plan and created confusion and uncertainty. Additionally, the vehicle used was far from what we expected: the jeep was in questionable condition and definitely not a premium one, as advertised. It didn’t feel entirely safe or comfortable for long drives on rough terrain.

Another major disappointment was the accommodation. We were placed in a different lodge than the one originally included in the offer. The alternative was acceptable, but not that we had paid for.

Overall, while the price and the excellent guide made parts of the trip worthwhile, the logistical and quality issues need serious improvement. With better communication, transparency, and equipment, this could have been a great safari experience.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your safari experience with us. We also appreciate your constructive feedback and understand your concerns. Regarding the accommodation, it was changed due to full occupancy, and we’re glad this was communicated to you and agreed upon in advance.

Dextrip Safaris – Mixed Experience
3/5

I found Dextrip Safaris through SafariBookings.com. Although they had only a few reviews at the time, they were all rated highly, so I decided to give them a chance.

I booked a 7-day safari covering Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, and Amboseli National Park, with luxury accommodations. Dextrip provided a quote that included two nights at Emayian Luxury Camp and similar high-end lodges. As requested, I paid 50% upfront to confirm the booking.

However, two days before the trip, I received a WhatsApp message from their contact, Antony Agayi, stating that only one night was available at Emayian and they would move me to Jambo Mara Safari Lodge (Superior Deluxe Cottage) for the second night. After several calls and emails, they confirmed one night at Emayian and one night at Jambo Mara. This last-minute change also happened to another traveler on the same itinerary, both bookings were made through Dextrip Safaris.

It was very concerning that Dextrip accepted payment and quoted a package without securing confirmed bookings, then made changes without offering any price adjustment. The only compensation offered was a $20 boat ride on Lake Naivasha, even though a free Masai Village visit had already been negotiated earlier. A visit to Hell’s Gate, which was not mentioned in my itinerary, was included for everyone else in the group. Fortunately, our guide included me as well.

Additionally, I had confirmed complimentary airport pickup with Antony two weeks prior to travel. I even reminded him again two days before my flight. However, no one showed up at Nairobi airport after my 25+ hour journey. I had to call both Antony and their director, Wycliffe, that night. A taxi was eventually arranged, but when asked, Antony simply said he “forgot”, an unacceptable and unprofessional response.

On the positive side, the actual safaris in Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, and Amboseli were excellent. Our guide, Sadam, was outstanding, dedicated, knowledgeable, and determined to help us see the Big Five and many other animals and birds.

However, main tour operator Sunnycreek Safaris (Jocky Tours) had placed budget, mid-range, and luxury clients in the same vehicle, with each group staying at different hotels kilometers apart. This made coordination and timely departures very difficult, especially given road conditions. Sadam worked extremely hard to manage the mixed group and did his best to ensure a good experience for everyone.

Because of these logistical issues and late starts, we missed out on included hotel lunches, having to settle for wayside lunches instead, even though we had paid for full-board accommodations.

Summary:
While the safari experience itself was great, thanks entirely to our driver-guide Sadam, my overall experience with Dextrip Safaris was disappointing. They seem to be a small, overpriced, and unreliable operator. You may not get what you were quoted or promised, and customer service is lacking. There are other more reliable safari operators who offer better pricing and better service for the same itinerary.

I’m removing two stars from my rating due to the last-minute changes, lack of transparency, and unprofessional handling of logistics.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sincerely sorry that parts of your experience fell short of expectations.

Your trip was confirmed by you on a very short notice during peak season, and while we communicated the necessary adjustments beforehand, we fully understand your disappointment. Please know that we did our utmost to arrange alternative luxury accommodations and included additional activities as a gesture of goodwill, which you accepted before the trip began.

We're pleased to hear you enjoyed the safari itself and appreciated our guide Sadam’s dedication. Your feedback is valuable and helps us improve both communication and logistics moving forward.

Thank you again for choosing Dextrip Safaris.

Great experience
4/5

We took a tour of various national parks in Kenya and Tanzania. We had different guides in both countries, but the transition went smoothly. Our accommodations were pleasant and the food was good. We had a guide in Kenya who was very knowledgeable about the animals and respectful of nature and wildlife. Dextrip regularly asked us how our trip was going and if we needed anything. We are very satisfied with Dextrip and would definitely recommend them for your next safari!

Very nice experience with a guide at the top of the top!
4/5

The Dextrip Safari team was able to meet our expectations, despite our somewhat tight budget everything was very good! They are very accommodating and attentive. The only small downside is the misunderstanding during the settlement, but everything worked out! We made an extraordinary safari with a great guide (Thank you Steve)! I recommend

Amazing
4/5

An unforgettable experience, made truly special thanks to our guide, China. Initially a bit reserved, he turned out to be an outstanding guide with 21 years of experience and deep knowledge of the land.

The lodges we stayed at were overall nice, with the last one (Voi Safari Lodge) offering a breathtaking view that truly stood out.

The agency (with Antony as our main contact) was very helpful and responsive throughout the planning process.
However, there were a few aspects that could have been communicated more clearly in advance. The remaining balance had to be paid in cash upon arrival, but the evening before the safari started, we were asked to hand over the money to a collaborator who would come to our private hotel. We preferred to give it directly to the guide in person the next morning, as originally expected.

Also, paying in local currency instead of US dollars ended up costing us more, due to the higher exchange rate applied by the lodges (compared to the official rate found online). This is definitely something that should be mentioned in advance, especially for travelers coming from Europe, where US dollars are not commonly used and need to be ordered from a bank.

Overall, it was a truly emotional and well-organized trip — one we will remember forever.

China number one!

Amazing planned Safari
5/5

Our whole safari was very well planned. We had a wonderful week in different parks in Kenya and Tanzania. I can really recommend this, because every park itself has special features and also the possibility to see different animals. We also had beautiful lodges, the staff was always very friendly and helpful. Also the food there was very good. The communication with our agency, especially Antony was very good. You could ask him anything and he always adapted everything to our wishes. Everything was right here. I can only recommend it to everyone.

Outstanding Safari Experience with Highly Professional Team
5/5

My friends and I had a fantastic adventure organized by Dextrip Safaris, and the experience exceeded our expectations. From the moment I contacted Antony through their website, he was extremely professional, responsive, and helpful. He promptly provided a very competitive quote and patiently answered all my questions, making the entire booking process smooth and stress-free.

The trip itself was wonderful. Our visit to Lake Naivasha was relaxing and scenic, and the hike at Mount Longonot was truly memorable, offering breathtaking views and an exciting outdoor challenge. Everything was well organized, and we felt well taken care of throughout the journey.

Overall, it was a great experience and a perfect way to explore some of Kenya’s natural beauty with friends. I would not hesitate to recommend Dextrip Safaris to anyone looking for a reliable and professional tour operator in Kenya. I am already looking forward to planning another safari with them in the future.

A reliable and flexible tour operator delivering seamless, expert-led safaris.
5/5

Dextrip organized an exceptional trip to Kenya for us. From pick-ups to comfortable and reliable transportation, everything ran smoothly. We selected three national parks, and after our stay in Diani Beach, the team flexibly adapted the itinerary to our change requests without imposing anything—giving us the freedom to experience the safari we had dreamed of.
Throughout the trip, most of the hotels were excellent and very well chosen. During the safaris, we were fortunate to see all the animals, thanks to the drivers’ patience, experience, and deep knowledge of the parks. Antony, our travel organizer, did a fantastic job coordinating the entire journey and was always responsive and professional.

We highly recommend Dextrip to anyone planning a safari in Kenya.
