Awesome
Our safari trip to South Africa was nothing short of spectacular and I would like to thank Chrizaan for putting together a wonderful itinerary for us. Our first contact with Discover Africa was with a consultant who was amazing and very personable. Our planning was over a year out and, unfortunately, she moved on but I appreciated Alice Lombard (head of sales and operations) stepping in and referring us to Chrizaan. I couldn’t have asked for a better consultant.
Because of our location the time discrepancy made communication a bit challenging, but thru emails, WhatsApp and Zoom calls the interactions with Chrizaan were all timely and efficient (1/2 hr blocks of time were set aside on Chrizaan’s schedule where one could book Zoom chats). I liked the web design they use to view options for personalized itineraries - descriptions on potential lodges, information on daily activities etc. Our trip included a 4 day visit to Capetown before our safari and Chrizaan arranged all the necessary flights, transfers and tours associated and everything went smoothly. Little things like sending us an email with our flight reservation so we could check in 24 hrs before our flight were much appreciated. If we had questions during our trip she was always available. We thought that this safari was going to be a once in a lifetime trip but our experience made us feel like it’s something we would love to do again and I wouldn’t hesitate to use Chrizaan and Discover Africa once again.

With Discover Africa, every detail falls into place as if the wild itself had planned it that way.
I booked a three-day safari through Discover Africa, including flights, and everything went smoothly from start to finish. Communication was clear, timely, and genuinely helpful, making the whole trip easy and worry-free.
The safari itself was exceptional. We stayed at Kambaku River Sands in Timbavati, where comfort blends naturally with the wild. Our guide and tracker were skilled and passionate, turning every drive into something memorable. Each outing felt unhurried and authentic, with remarkable wildlife moments unfolding at their own rhythm: lions on the move, elephants at play, and leopards appearing from the shadows.
Discover Africa proved to be reliable, well-organized, and great value for money. I’d happily book with them again.
As Twain said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” Discover Africa makes that first step simple.

Exceeded Expectations!
Africa was on my travel "wishlist" but I never thought I would actually get there
That all changed when our son was home for a visit over Christmas. He announced that he and a friend were going to Africa. They had selected DISCOVER AFRICA to plan their trip. He shared all the details with us and we decided it was an adventure we had to experience as well.
Our son connected us with Vihann Van Wyk at Discover Africa, the same agent he was using. Vihann was a pleasure to work with.
He coordinated our trip with our son's and tweaked the details as requested. Communication was a breeze through both email and WhatsApp. Vihann made suggestions as well as accepted specific requests from us to build a custom itinerary. No detail was overlooked. Some accommodations were adjusted to keep us within budget without sacrificing our experience.
All drivers, tour guides, experiences & lodging did not disappoint. All internal flights were on Airlink .... better than some regional airlines in the USA.
The weather was perfect too!
Our itinerary included:
*CAPE TOWN - Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel....very nice property with an excellent breakfast and beautiful outdoor dining. Must sees were the full day Cape Tour, Wine Tour to Stellenbosch, Table Mountain and High Tea at the Cape Grace Hotel.
*KRUGER NTL PARK - Lion Sands Tinga Lodge....a dream experience! Excellent private bungalow, twice daily game drives, delicious food, and a wonderful massage and facial at the spa. The staff was outstanding.
*VICTORIA FALLS - Shongwe Lookout Lodge...a modest property that met all our needs and saved us some money. We experienced the Zambezi River sunset cruise, Victoria Falls ( incredible!! ) , lunch at the Lookout Cafe and a visit to the historic Victoria Falls hotel for lunch.
*JOHANNESBURG - Marriott African Pride Hotel in Melrose Arch ....an upscale area with lots of shopping and dining. The Soweto Tour was an experience not to be missed. We visited Nelson Mandela's office and home. The Apartheid Museum was sobering and moving.
Lastly, every where we went we met the nicest people....friendly and helpful.
Excellent adventure! An experience like no other!

Nailed the brief
We had been thinking about a Southern Africa safari trip for a few years and had some valuable input from Zimbabwean friends who had been on tour many times. So we had a general idea of when and where, but needed guidance on the finer details and options, as well as someone to put it all together once we’d agreed on an itinerary (South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana). This was possibly going to be our one and only trip of this type so we wanted to get it right!
I saw an ad for a tour similar to what I had in mind so contacted Discover Africa (DA). Devryn was able to clearly outline his preferences that would meet the brief. He suggested the order of travel, how long at each place, what type of accommodation (generally getting better as we progressed), how to get from A to B etc, via several email conversations.
We had a Zoom meeting with him before finalising the plan, where we were able to ask further questions which he was able to answer confidently and competently given he had been to these places himself.
We felt confident enough with his recommendations to lock it in, 12 months ahead of the trip.
Naturally, you anticipate some things will go wrong on tour eg a missed connection, guide not turning up, accommodation not as described, and we were mentally prepared for that.
However every connection was made on time and the accommodation exceeded our high expectations!
The Safari experience itself (which Devryn obviously couldn’t guarantee) was superb. The guides from the lodges we used were experienced, informative, respectful of the animals, considerate of what we had and hadn’t seen previously and so every day (twice a day!) was another trip into the unknown. Everyone hopes to see the Big 5, which we did early on. After that it was a matter of literally sitting back in the jeep and seeing what would turn up. The birdlife was better than I expected (lilac-breasted roller was a favourite), and seeing small animals like mongooses (4 different species), a chameleon and steenbok were unexpected highlights.
The food was varied at the various lodges with usually a buffet of 3 main courses of western style cuisine (although I ate wildebeest, crocodile, kudu and springbok when it was offered).
We finished off with 3 nights in Cape Town to let the Safari experience sink in, which was a very good move.
So in summary, we did some initial research, worked out a plan with Devryn, and he nailed the brief. We’ll never know if it could have been even better, but I seriously doubt it.

Discover Africa organized a GREAT Botswana safari for us!
I had received a glowing recommendation for Discover Africa from a member of my synagogue who has done multiple safaris with them. So when it came time to select a safari vendor for a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife safari for my daughter and I, I reached out to them. I'd done some research ahead of time and so knew that we were interested in Botswana, specifically the Okavango Delta. My contact/resource at Discover Africa was Susan Veldman and she was great. She listened to what I told her in terms of what we were looking for and crafted a proposal that met our needs in terms of schedule, length, etc. Initially she had us ending our trip at Victoria Falls (my impression is most multiple-stop safaris in the region start or end there), but when I told her our focus was really on wildlife, she came up with an amended itinerary that subtracted Victoria Falls and added Chobe National Park. In short, she listened and responded to our input. We did 8 nights/9 days. We flew into Johannesburg, South Africa, from NYC via London. Those flights we booked on our own, but everything else and all the other flights (Johannesburg to Botswana, 3 bush flights to our lodges/accommodations, then back to Johannesburg from Kasane) were taken care of by Susan. Plus we had dietary requirements (I'm a vegetarian and my daughter is allergic to dairy) that Susan communicated to the 3 lodges we stayed at and they came through with flying colors. I haven't eaten so well in quite a while! We spent 3 nights at Kadizora Lodge (in the Delta), 3 nights at Saguni Lodge (eastern edge of the Delta, near Khwai and the Moremi Game Reserve) and two nights further east, at Elephant Valley Lodge outside of Kasane and adjacent to Chobe National Park. Each lodge and experience was a little different, and we loved all three. Kadizora was the smallest of the three, and the most isolated -- there weren't many other lodges nearby and so we did not see a lot of other vehicles on our drives. The terrain in the area was flooded delta and savannah-style plain for the most part, with good/long visibility. Saguni was a little larger and close to the village of Khwai; the terrain in the area was more scrub trees, as well as savannah, so visibility was often more circumscribed. The wildlife in both areas of the Delta was similar, and both of the Okavango lodges were near water (Saguni especially). At both the Okavango lodges we supplemented our drives with water-borne excursions, including two makora (traditional dug-out canoes, propelled by guides with long poles -- think of Venice and gondolas) rides which were fantastic. We loved our guides at all three lodges, but bonded especially with Action at Suguni -- he was very knowledgeable and a real gem. Elephant Valley Lodge was the largest of the three we stayed at; it is near Kasane, a significant town near the borders of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Paved roads, shopping centers, more people. And Chobe National Park was by far the most crowded of the three areas we drove in. And in the national park, as opposed to the Delta, guides were not permitted to take their vehicles off-road in search of game. More than compensating for this, though, was the sheer volume and density of wildlife in Chobe NP. It was amazing. In short, Discover Africa delivered a perfect wildlife safari for my daughter and I which met all our (very high) expectations. We couldn't have been happier, and Susan was always available for questions, both before and during the trip. We were in good hands throughout!

Chrizaan Troch was wonderful to work with, which resulted in a memorable and amazing trip!
Our Africa Safari trip will forever be one of the most memorable and wonderful trips we have taken. Words cannot begin to explain the amazing wildlife we got to see and experience up close. Experiencing these beautiful animals in their natural habitat was beautiful and humbling. Our trackers/guides did an amazing job, not only in tracking, but educating us on the wildlife. Besides going on several safaris, we also visited Victoria Falls, which is majestic in its own right. A definite must see. We also experienced several river rides, which were beautiful and calming, and another way to engage with the wildlife up close. We began our Safari trip in Cape Town, in which we had a very pleasant stay and tours of the city and Table Mountain. The sites are amazing!! I have to say, though, what made our trip very memorable were the people we came in contact with. They were so friendly, beautiful and very helpful. This unforgettable trip was made possible with the help of Chrizaan. Every destination we arrived to, we were greeted with transport, a tour guide and we felt so well taken care of. Everything flowed so smoothly. Our group is forever thankful to Discover Africa Safaris.

Susan was amazing! Her itinerary was perfection and she was always available to offer advice.
We had the most memorable safari trip with Discover Africa Safaris. Susan put together the perfect itinerary for our first family safari. Her choices were excellent. We loved both safari lodges and our accommodation in Cape Town was wonderful. Her recommendation for car rental in Cape Town was great as we were able to drive to Hout Bay, Boulders Beach and Cape Point easily. I would thoroughly recommend Susan to put together the perfect vacation!

Great customer service, close communication and follow up
We picked Discover Africa Safaris due to recommendation from other friends. We are a family of 4 (2 teenagers) and did our bookings on very short notice however they did a great job finding the best alternatives in a compressed schedule that would fit our available days and budget. Our designated agent also kept in top of the logistics and with daily WhatsApp follow up in case of any contingencies or changes.
You may find cheaper options elsewhere but if peace of mind is what you are looking for, we recommend them.

Our safari trip to Botwsana was a dream come true, absolutely flawless, thanks to the outstanding service and thoughtful planning by Cayleigh Brown of Discover Africa! Every detail, from the tailored itinerary to the incredible selection of lodges, exceeded our expectations. The staff at the lodges were remarkable, and the smooth airlifts and unique activities made the trip unforgettable. Thoughtful, thorough, responsive, and great organization of trip.
Organized a 10 day trip to Cape Town and a safari with Discover Africa. Fabulous experience with the travel, transportation, the tours, the safari, and give full credit to Chrizaan at Discover Africa with doing an outstanding job.
Spent a fair amount of time evaluating different tour organizers, largely using reviews such as this to identify good ones, and hopefully avoid working with less reputable companies. I rarely write reviews, but want to recommend people in a similar situation to strongly consider working with Discover Africa, especially if the rest of their company is staffed with people like Chrizaan. Collectively, we established timing, budget targets, and experiences. She provide suggestions for 4 days in Cape Town and recommendations for the type of safari experience I wanted (family of 5, all adult children). Even with a 7 hour time difference, communication was prompt, questions and details answered, and her suggestions were perfect. Our family had a fabulous time (Cape Town, Jock Safari Lodge) and would return in a heartbeat. I would not even consider using any other travel advisor.
