Amazing, best safari yet!
5/5

Firstly our trip was really made by our wonderful guide ‘Goodluck’ he really made a trip so so special and couldn’t recommend him enough!
The safari could not have been better with every animal we wanted to see making an appearance. Our accommodation was superb and once again our guide made the trip for us. Thank you very much!

Way worse than we expected

I am very disappointed with the service from this company, including the director and tour guides.

Upon our arrival at Kenya International Airport in the morning after a long and exhausting flight from Asia, we were shocked to find that no one was there to pick us up. We waited for hours, anxiously looking for any sign of our transportation. During this time, we attempted to contact George multiple times, but we received no response. It was incredibly frustrating to be left in such a situation, especially after such a long journey. Ultimately, we had no choice but to call a taxi and make our own way to the first hotel. George only reached out to us after we had arrived at the hotel, explaining that his Kenyan partner had made a mistake and forgotten to send someone to pick us up. This lack of communication and organization was unacceptable.

On the following day in Kenya, we encountered further issues. The tour guide did not take us to the destination specified in our itinerary. Instead, we were pressured into participating in walking tours that required us to pay out of pocket, despite our initial refusals. The tour guide insisted that we must join at least one paid program, leaving us feeling coerced and dissatisfied with the experience we had originally signed up for.

Additionally, the lodges where we were accommodated were clearly of a much lower standard than what was promised in our itinerary. The company claimed that the accommodations listed were overbooked, yet they failed to provide us with equivalent options that matched the quality we had expected. The food served at these lodges was unsanitary, and we were suffering from diarrhea, which significantly impacted our trip.

Throughout our experience, there was a constant push to make us pay for additional services that were not part of our original package. Unplanned souvenir shopping stops were added without prior notice, which felt more like a sales tactic than a genuine part of our tour. This relentless focus on upselling not only detracted from our enjoyment but also made us feel undervalued as customers.

Overall, this trip has been far from the enjoyable experience we anticipated. I hope this feedback will be taken seriously to improve the service for future travelers.

The company is not professional with minimum customer care

George Killas, owner of Terrain Tanzania Safaris, left us completely unsupported during multiple trip failures—and never took responsibility.
After a full day of travel, our group (which included elderly family members) was denied check-in. The hotel informed us that George had failed to make payment, even though he had told us everything was confirmed. Later on, he tried to explain the situation and then we realized that he knew this could happen weeks ago but chose not to inform us.
When the hotel rejected the voucher, George told us to “just show it again” and dropped the call. We spent over an hour begging hotel staff to let us stay while he did nothing. It was humiliating, stressful, and completely avoidable.
Throughout the trip, George showed no accountability. From disappearing during emergencies to making excuses instead of solutions, he abandoned us when we needed him most.
We booked this trip expecting reliable support and coordination from a trusted safari company. Instead, we were met with negligence, dishonesty, and total lack of professionalism.
Do not book with this company. George will take your money—and leave you stranded.

Dear Victor,

Thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear about the inconvenience you experienced during your check-in and understand how stressful this situation must have been, especially after a long day of travel.

We would like to clarify that the payment for your stay was duly completed in advance. A service voucher confirming your booking was also shared with your safari companion, Katherine Li, one day prior to your arrival. We ensured that you were accommodated at all the hotels and game parks as per your paid itinerary, without any additional charges or changes.

We acknowledge that there was a delay during the check-in process at one of the Hotels, and we sincerely apologize for the frustration this caused. In the end the hotel was able to verify and honor the booking using the same service voucher provided, we understand that the waiting time and uncertainty were far from ideal.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We value your feedback and are committed to improving our services.

Sincerely,

Terrain Tanzania Safaris

Vehicle Safety Concerns and George (Owner) Showed No Accountability
1/5

We had a deeply distressing experience during our safari with Terrain Tanzania Safaris, owned by George. What was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip turned into a situation where we felt genuinely unsafe — and unsupported when it mattered most.

In Kenya, we were provided with a vehicle that, in our experience, raised serious safety concerns, including:
- Seatbelts that did not function
- Exposed, rusted metal that injured my mother’s leg
- A passenger door that swung open twice while driving on the road

We were alarmed and immediately requested a replacement to George. We were told by him that it would be arranged — but then received no updates or communication for over 24 hours. During that time, we felt anxious, helpless, and abandoned. Our current driver on that day also felt confused since he didn't get a confirmation from George wheather he should go back home or continue on the next day. We insisted him to stay that night, because otherwise we could have a risk of no guide or a vehicle the next day, which turned out to be true since George made no replacement arrangements.

On the next day 1:30PM, we were informed by George that the replacement vehicle would not be provided due to additional park entrance costs. To us, this felt like our safety had been deprioritized in favor of saving money — a decision that left us both disappointed and frustrated. Furthermore, this complete lack of communication caused us immense trauma and unbearable stress.

We understand that no trip is perfect and safari conditions can be challenging. However, we believe that basic safety and responsive support should never be compromised.

This experience left us shaken and disheartened. In our personal opinion, travelers booking with this company should be aware of what we encountered, and consider whether they are comfortable with the level of risk and response we faced.

Dear Katherine,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are truly sorry to hear about the distress and discomfort you and your family faced during your safari. Your safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us, and we deeply regret that your experience did not reflect the standards we strive to uphold.

We take your concerns regarding the vehicle condition very seriously. Please note that all vehicles used for our safaris are operated by licensed and regulated local partners, and we expect them to meet the required safety standards. During your 11-day journey across Kenya and Tanzania, three different safari vehicles were arranged in line with distance and cross-border operational policies. Throughout the trip, there were no mechanical breakdowns; however, we acknowledge and sincerely apologize for the specific issues you reported, including non-functioning seatbelts, exposed metal that caused injury, and the passenger door concern. We deeply regret the impact these issues had on your comfort and peace of mind.

Regarding your request for a replacement vehicle, we understand your concerns. At that stage, with only two days remaining in your itinerary and during a particularly busy travel period, arranging a replacement vehicle within the park and across distances presented significant logistical challenges. Nevertheless, we made every effort to address the situation promptly, and immediate steps were taken on-site to repair the seatbelts and door to ensure the vehicle could be used safely for the remainder of your safari. We also apologize for the communication delays experienced, which were partly due to limited network coverage in remote areas, though we are glad the situation was resolved in coordination with your safari guide.

We would also like to emphasize that any decisions related to vehicle changes require coordination with park authorities and involve operational considerations; however, guest safety must always remain the top priority. We regret that our communication did not provide you with sufficient reassurance during this time.

Please be assured that we are carefully reviewing this matter with our partners to strengthen our quality control, communication, and response processes to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

We sincerely apologize once again for the stress this experience caused you and your family. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve, and we truly appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention.

Sincerely,

Terrain Tanzania Safaris
