Suggest to avoid below average agency with a bad driver
Local agency offered a fair price and booked good accommodation. However, their customer service and English communication were not very strong.
The main issue was our driver. He struggled to find good viewpoints and was not responsive during key moments. We went to see the river crossing, leaving at 6 a.m. and arriving on the spot first. However, when the crossing began, he parked in the wrong place (three times) and didn’t react in time—so we couldn’t see anything, despite having clearly stated that this was our top priority.
Throughout the safari, he often rushed us, especially when we were watching animals—despite this being the main reason for the trip. He always tried to bring us back to our hotel as soon as possible (always dropping us at around 3).
On one occasion, he misunderstood the phrase “why not” (we’re still unsure what he thought he heard) and suddenly became angry, yelled at us, and even suggested he might leave us behind—in the middle of the Serengeti. Although we explained several times that he had misheard and apologised regardless, the situation didn’t improve.
This incident, combined with the missed river crossing, left us feeling that the safari was a waste of money. We gave the minimum tip, though we felt even that was too generous, and he accepted it without saying thank you.

Yes, we did receive a complaint from this client regarding the guide. However, the main issue arose during the day at Kogatende (Northern Serengeti) while spotting the Great Migration. As per the national park regulations, no person is allowed to leave the safari vehicle except in designated picnic areas. The clients insisted on being outside the vehicle near the animals, but our guide could not allow this for their safety and to respect the park rules.
Unfortunately, this situation caused some frustration, and the client was unhappy with the guide from that point onward. Despite this, our guide continued to do everything possible to make their experience enjoyable. In fact, they were fortunate enough to witness the incredible river crossing a highlight of the Great Migration yet this was overshadowed by their earlier request.
We always prioritize the safety of our guests and adherence to park regulations. Our guides are highly trained to ensure both, while still providing the best safari experience possible.

Did not execute, failed to remedy the situation
Serengeti African Tours markets itself as an ultra-luxury travel provider, which makes our experience all the more disappointing.
Despite paying a substantial premium, the reservation arrangements confirmed to our group just 1 day in advance, were not honored, resulting in significant inconvenience and the unnecessary separation of two couples traveling together. This created an avoidable and uncomfortable situation that should never have occurred.
What was most frustrating was that there was a simple solution available: provide the arrangements that had been promised and paid for. Instead, the issue was mishandled, no meaningful effort was made to resolve it, and the follow-up response consisted of little more than an unsatisfactory email explanation.
Our group entrusted Serengeti African Tours based on the expectation that the company would deliver the experience it sold. Unfortunately, it failed to uphold its commitments, and its response afterward demonstrated a disappointing lack of accountability and customer service.
Luxury travel is defined not only by the destinations and accommodations, but by flawless execution and responsive service when problems arise. In our case, Serengeti African Tours fell well short of the standards it claims to represent. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this company and will be sharing our experience with others considering booking through them.
A couple of highlights which kept it from 1 star:
Our Guide (Godfrey Maarifa) was very knowledgeable, engaging, and good to work with. If you can book directly with him, he's great.
The park overdelivers. I suspect that the guide had a significant impact on the animal viewing but we saw them all. Definitely recommend the trip, just not the tour operator based on the customer service and attention to details.
Quite okay Mt. Meru experience with Ups & Downs
Average price compared to other companies but for our group size of 2 people incomprehensible why 4 porters are needed (all of them have to be tipped, other companies use 2 porters for that group size).
We have not been proactively contacted for the briefing, sleeping bags not on the prep list so that we didn't bring any and had to rent them from the company...our guide briefed us and took photos of our passports, afterwards the organizer again asked us for photos of our passports, unclear if there was any communication. On the summit ascent (3rd) day we only got a poor and sweet food package for on the go, unfortunately not enough for such a hike. Our guide was a very funny, motivating and sociable guy but lacked a bit of healthy distancing and could not tell us a lot about historical backgrounds. Other than that, staff was very kind, friendly, always tried to provide the best service. Food was amazing and tasty, very big portions.

Wonderful Safari tour with a cheerful and caring tour operator!
I had a wonderful time with the tour members, and our tour guide Laurence.
Thanks to Laurence, we could see many different animals with delicious food everyday.

Adrian was a great laugh and good guide, once asked he gave all information needed
Adrian was a good tour guide, young and keen which is good to see. The tour itself was very organized and thought through, no hiccups along the way. Especially through online bookings.

Great fun
Was good to see all the animals the food and organisation was okay but the animals made up for it
The tour operator was professional and delivered on the key aspects of of our itinerary
We booked a 6 day safari and had a great trip. The operator was flexible with our choice of accommodation and allowed some modifications. Laurence was a great driver and always put our priorities first. Minor downside would be the lack of organisation and different accommodations between the travelers in the vehicle. We felt we lost a lot of time figuring out who was going where and driving to different lodges every day.

Lorenz was a knowledgeable and reliable operator who ensured the Serengeti tour ran smoothly.
I recently traveled with Go Serengeti African Tours and overall had an average experience. The itinerary was well-structured, and transportation was reliable, allowing us to see many highlights of the Serengeti. However, the food provided during the tour was often served cold, which took away from the overall comfort of the experience. While the essentials of the trip were delivered, there is room for improvement in both customer care and attention to detail, particularly with meals and hospitality.

Very disponible to answer to your questions and exceptional driver
We had a wonderful 6-day trip with Serengeti Africa Tours.
- Positive
Linah, the contact person, was extremely available and answered our hundreds of questions on WhatsApp quickly and efficiently.
Our driver Matchete was exceptional. Very skilled, very passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable about the animals. He was always smiling and pleasant.
Visiting different parks was an outstanding experience.
- Negative
The food was good but a bit repetitive.
The preparation of the packed lunches in the morning was always delayed by 30 minutes to 1 hour, which made us feel like we were leaving for safari later than others.
In August, there are huge crowds. You are never alone—always dozens of jeeps around. At lunchtime, you have to “fight” with other agencies to get a table or chair in the picnic areas.
Nyani Public Campsite in the Serengeti was the worst campsite we’ve stayed at in 4 months of traveling through Africa: dirty toilets and showers, too much loud music and partying (those people shouldn’t be there), overcrowded, and in the evening you have to queue to use the toilets or showers.
The road to the Serengeti is chaotic, with 3 hours of rough driving each way. Because of that many car were stop on the way because of car issue. And us as well we lost 3h in all trip because of car issue due to very bad road.
- Ecological concerns
Too many plastic bottles. Almost all tourists carry reusable bottles, so agencies should find a better solution.
Lots of litter around the parking and cooking areas in the campsites.
Eating with real plates, cutlery, and glasses instead of plastic is a very good practice.

Affordable and beautiful experience
It probably is not the most luxurious safari... but you will have the whole experience
