wildlife wasn't very rich in aprile, but we saw a lots of zebras, kudu, giraffe, springbok, and many birds. and no lion no ghepard and no lepard.
scenery: very beautifull desert and skeleton coast, etosha, burn mountains, epupa falls is so so. windhoek is very small and just one day enough to visit.
weather in aprile doesn't perfect. in some areas it rained a lot(ex. waterberg, and etosha)
accommodation good: campsites are well equipped with hot water and electrical outlets.
food is good. (you can try all types of meat from zebra to crocodile)
transportation: Roads are often unpaved, you need 4x4, one tire more, and bensin reserve. before renting the car checked it for damage. the best thing: let a few tips, their will remember when you return.
be careful driving. Namibians are not very careful drivers often allow very risky moves.

The Sound of Silence of Amazing Namibia

It is hard to write a review about our (self-drive) roundtrip in Namabia without ending up in a copy of my >100 page diary, which I wrote during our visit. The first thing that comes to my mind is the absolute earshattering silence once you leave Windhoek. No planes, industry, traffic or other background noise. Then the breathtaking vast and wide landscape which changes by the hour in colour and scenery. Driving on the gravel-roads, once you leave the tarmac of the Trans African Highway is a joy. However I would recommend a 4x4 twincab (or similar) for comfort. The lodges, farms and tented camps were excellent and so where the meals. In some cases we even felt uncomfortable looking at how the local people live. That brings us to the local people of Namibia. Never have we encountered such friendly people, who are very much interested and eager to have a chat. Although it is a bit awkward in the beginning being the only whites in the crowd. Apart from getting used to that, we have never
Read more felt unsafe or not being welcome. We traveled in May-June which is just outside the high season. Advantage is that it is not crowded, not even in the main touristic areas. Disadvantage is that the wildlife is more shattered and more difficult to spot as water is still available and the grasses are rather high. But we saw more than enough to balance the scales. Where to go? Make your choice, it is beautiful everywhere. My personal highlight: sitting between two cheetahs on the grass and stroking their necks, while they were licking my bare legs. Advice is, do not travel more than 300 km per day and try to plan a longer stay at highlights as Etosha, Namib Rand and Namib Naukluft Park. A warning: Africa get under your skin! You will always want to come back.

We had a wonderful time in Namibia.

The organization, handling and support of our vacation by Nature Travel Namibia was perfect and left no room for improvement.
Our guide Delano pointed out many special features and animals that we would never have noticed without him and took us to places that we would not have been able to get to without him. His company was incredibly committed and courteous.
The composition of the entire tour, the day trips and the selection of lodges was without exception a fitting and positive surprise.
In our opinion, it was the right decision to do this trip with a personal guide. It gave us plenty of time to enjoy the vacation ourselves, to concentrate on the beauty of nature and we had someone with us who took care of everything else. Great.

Brilliant Contrasts

5 / 5 5 /5
Our recent journey to Namibia ranked as one of our best international trips. It is a country of great contrasts and scenic beauty, especially for those who appreciate stark features of nature. Namibia is an outstanding destination for those who enjoy nature photography and adventure as opposed to those who prefer city tours and shopping. We loved hiking up Big Daddy, one of the largest desert sand dunes. The petrified forest in Deadvlei set against the dunes is unique in the world. Shipwrecks could be seen along the Skeleton coast. Obviously one of the favorite places was Etosha NP and especially capturing photos and silhouettes of African animals at sunset at the waterholes. I was pleased to see the emphasis on protection of wildlife in Etosha and rehabilitation and caring for cheetah at Cheetah Conservation Fund. Unfortunately, in contrast, I became aware of the Namibian government's plans for slaughtering, or as they euphemistically call culling, over 80K adorable seals
Read more at Cape Cross including routinely clubbing thousands of seal pups. I'll end on a brighter note. Our private guide Leonard with People's Tours was exemplary. He showed flexibility and consistent sensitivity to our needs, thorough knowledge of the country and animals, and even an appreciation of my twisted sense of humor. I highly recommend a private tour with him.

Epic landscape and lovely people

We did an 11 day wildlife, dunes and canyons trip, booked by Indigo safaris and organised locally by Chameleon safaris.

From the time we landed to the time we left, we saw amazing landscapes - it’s really a breathtaking variety of dunes, mountains, desert, canyons, and coast. I’d recommend Namibia highly just for the landscapes.

For wildlife, the drive up to Etosha national park is smooth. There are lots of gravely paths inside and out of Etosha (be ready for the “African massage”), but with a decent vehicle and a good driver, it’s all fine. In Etosha, we spotted lots of birds, rhinos, giraffes, ostrich, zebras and also a pack of lions and hyena from a distance, but really wildlife spotting is a game of time and patience (and this was our safari taster and so we have nothing to compare it with). Our guide Tinashe was excellent though in trying to make sure we see as many different animals in the two days of game driving in Etosha as possible. Also,
Read more we didn’t go in the peak season.

Everywhere we went, the places where we were staying were super comfortable, including the camping bits (it was a mix of lodges and camps) and the people. I’m a vegetarian, but still could find enough options in super markets for me.

There was no sense of the place being over touristy or people hounding tourists. It was more of a sense of appreciation of tourists for their contribution to the economy (of course you have to be a responsible tourist and appreciate that you are in the wild - in pure nature and not a park). So all in all the experience was very enjoyable, refreshing and peaceful.

Beautiful scenery but specific tour was a disaster

4 / 5 3 / 5 4 / 5 3 / 5

Scenery of dunes was amazing
Weather was not that cold for desert and for wintertime , warm during the day
We didn't receive lunch on first day, other days the food was very little, others bought food .The vegetarians and vegans had much more limited options too for barbeque
Guide was not informative and we hardly received any info about sights we visited.
Transportation was a broken down game drive vehicle , some bumping there heads on the roof when we visited Deadvlei .Our specific vehicle broke down in middle of the desert without a spare tyre .
Camping facilities basic and okay

First I want to say that our transfer driver, John, was great, as were our cook, David, and our driver, Marvin. This review should not reflect poorly on them in any way, as my complaints are out of their hands. Understanding and respecting that unforeseen circumstances do occur, the condition of our safari truck was ridiculous. The sides never stayed velcroed closed and we would have to stop and fix them continuously, and the bars they were wrapped around were rusty. One hour into our very first game drive the truck broke down. We were then sent separately and alone back to camp, with unknown tourists who stopped alongside us. Apparently the fuse box was broken. One of the other tourists in our group complained about the missed game drive and another company and driver, Oscar, came to our rescue and gave us our game drive. The next morning we needed to push start the truck and found out the starter was now broken. We again drove with another company and Oscar, thankfully! Aside from
Read more the inferior vehicle problems, I was so tired of eating porridge and beans that I will never consume them again! Out tour was only 3 days long and yet we ate the same thing over and over again. When I asked if we were having eggs I was informed no, because they hadn't been delivered. Oh great, more porridge! My idea of the "delicious brunch" that is advertised in my itinerary was not simply the bread, yogurt and Corn Flakes cereal, which was what was offered. I wondered if all of the African tours were like this, but after joining our Nomad tour and being given fresh fruit, juices, chicken, spaghetti, and a wide range of deliciously cooked foods I have concluded Wild Cherry Tours is an inferior company and we greatly overpaid for what we received. I am greatly disappointed but at least the wildlife we saw left us with some wonderful memories of Etosha camping.

As my first safari everything amazed me. I can say my dream to see african wildlife became true

4 / 5 4 /5

Contrast feelings. In my opinion local people is plundered of their birthrights. The certitude of being in a totally wild territory flew away by the fact that allmost all the country is fenced and packaged and most of the wildlife intensely managed, although I do not deny this is, in some cases and for certain species, the best way to assure conservation.

Anyway, this is not true for the main place we visit (4 days, 3 nigths), etosha. Here the only artificial elements are the man made waterholes (some are natural) and the roads, but this is why you can see the animals here. As it was my first safari ever, everything was amazing. We even saw many rhinos (both) and lions in our self drives. After Etosha we went to Okonjima for leopards and cheetahs. The first are free born radiocallared animals and they guarantee you good observations, but the rescued cheetahs are semi-domesticated animals. Also here brown hyaena, ardwolf, mountain zebra, elephant shrew and white rhino. As
Read more birders we enjoyed tracking in this reserve. The guides were superb and the standard rooms were actually luxury: you could see a lot of life lying in the bed.

Etosha is vey good for raptors (martial eagle, bateleur and secretary, but we missed pygmy falcon) and steppe-land birds, but not so much for passerines, as you can not leave the car. For photographers: the most of the day the light is too bright and the sky leaden
The surrealistic vision of game, seemingly floating over the salt plan, seems a sweet alutination. The only night we spent camping at okaukuejo I will never forget: 7 black rhinos, including cubs playfully approaching elephant bulls (until a blast of water from his trunk made the cub run to mother's shelter), a genets and a hyaena (with a jackal as squire) in the waterhole. When I went to sleep the roar of lyons made my marrows shake.
The best place for lions where Nebrownii and Okondeka waterholes. We tried a lot with cheetah, but no luck in 4 days.

Namibia is a country with amazing wildlife and so much more. I was surprised at the abundance of wild animals we saw in Etosha, but also saw other wildlife along our journey travelling across the country. The country has so much to offer in addition to its wildlife, including some of the highest sand dunes in the world, traditional tribes and hiking opportunites.
